Crop Progress Report: June 1, 2021

The June 1, 2021 Crop Progress Report covers conditions and observations made between Monday, April 26 and Monday, May 31, 2021. The next scheduled report will be posted on Monday, June 28, 2021. In the event of any significant occurrences prior to that date, this site will be updated as soon as possible.

Clear skies with mild to warm temperatures and blustery winds typified weather in the central valley for nearly the entire month of May. Following the threat of rain in the previous period’s final days, temperatures in the first days of the period were reported in the mid to upper 60’s as the remnants of the weakening storms exited the state. Temperatures then warmed rapidly and were widely reported in the upper 70’s to lower 80’s, with readings on the warmest days reaching into the low to mid 90’s. Forecasters have predicted a heatwave for the first week of June. The reports were confirmed by a significant increase in temperatures in the period’s final days as readings rose to the century mark on May 31. Morning lows followed the trend of the daily maximum readings, ranging from the lower 40’s early in the month to the upper 50 as the period concluded. Read more…
